  • 24 metal oxide varistors (MOVs) encased in approximately half an inch of epoxy

  • MOVs increase resistance to manage and suppress voltage surges

  • A typical lightning strike delivers 140 kWh in just 30 microseconds

That amount of energy:

  • Vaporizes #2 copper strand wire

  • Melts Dow Corning Sylgard flame-retardant epoxy

  • Causes visible cracks in the epoxy where the varistor absorbed the impact

  • Produces extreme heat, released through vent holes on the bottom edge
